Decline of Democracy

–Berlin, 1932

This (extended, eight-session) seminar will examine a theme of obvious contemporary relevance through both domestic and international lenses. We’ll open with an exploration of how the framers conceived of democracy, and how the concept evolved over the 19th century. The remainder of the sessions will focus on the 20th and 21st centuries, covering events in both Europe and the United States.

As always, each session will conclude with 10-15 minutes on contemporary issues, and a question-and-answer session; and I’ll be sending around readings of interest each week.

Wednesdays at 10.30 via Zoom.
